The Atlanta Botanical Gardens Imaginary Worlds exhibit features 19 giant topiary-like sculptures of mosaiculture, a centuries-old horticultural art of covering steel forms in living plants. The Children’s Museum of Atlanta, geared toward children under 12, is probably one of the best places for little learners to explore. This summer they are offering three unique summer camps. My son would love Discovery Science Camp, which is perfect for young scientists. Imaginator Theater Camp is great for young actors, and Adventure Camp is ideal for first-time campers. Fun-filled activities include science experiments, outdoor play, learning to cook, yoga for youngsters, creative play, and of course exploring the museum. Here’s the scoop on all three camps.

Like most kids, mine are huge LEGO fans. This winter, we even went to LEGOLAND Florida theme park. One of my son’s favorite activities was the Mindstorm session, where they programmed a LEGO robot. The kids were so into it, that I even posted how I wanted to find something similar closer to Atlanta. Enter campMODA, a LEGO Robotics Experience. Now the boys can program LEGO robots for a whole week and the best part is until May 10, campMODA is offering to waive the $100 registration fee for Field Trips with Sue readers. If you haven’t scheduled camp yet, this is a great deal!

Five Free Things to do in Atlanta with Kids

Noah's Ark

This morning on CBS Better Mornings Atlanta we met Popeye from Noah’s Ark. Noah’s Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center is one of the many free activities featured in Field Trips w/Sue’s book 100+ Free Things to do in Atlanta.

In less than a month, my children, like many in Georgia, will be out of school for the summer. It’s time to begin planning those lazy summer days by the pool and mixing in a few activities to get the kids away from the TV and video games. All you need to know to have a fun, and affordable summer is in the Field Trips with Sue book 100+ Free Things to do in Atlanta (hint: order online here). This morning on CBS Better Mornings Atlanta, I talked about a few of my favorite entries in the book and how you can have fun with the kids this summer for free.

One of my favorite parts of LEGOLAND Discovery Center at Phipps Plaza is the Kingdom Quest ride. It’s similar to Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story at Walt Disney World in that you ride in a car through a series of video screens and vignette’s shooting items for points. To really score big in Kingdom Quest, you need to know what to shoot. LEGOLAND staff are quite knowledgeable, but are also tight lipped on what to look for on the ride. Here are some tips to Score Big on Kingdom Quest at LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

LEGOLAND Florida: Review from a 13-year-old

After our trip to LEGOLAND Florida, I had a lot of people ask me if it was something that tweens and teens would enjoy. The park itself is geared toward those 12 and under, but tweens and young teens can have a good time, especially if they go with a younger sibling or friend. My 13 year-old was almost as excited as my 8 year-old to visit LEGOLAND, and although they enjoyed many of the same things, they also experienced the park a bit differently. Given more time to plan his own schedule, my teen would have spent more time in mini-land, Instagramming photos of mini cities. Here’s his thoughts on what to do at LEGOLAND Florida for tweens and teens.

On a long weekend in January, we visited LEGOLAND Florida. It was a highly anticipated visit for my 8-year-old. Before we left, he carefully chose mini-figures to trade with the staff members at the park. The evening before our visit, he picked up a brochure to begin mapping out our day. The morning of, he counted down the minutes until we left the hotel. A week after our visit, he still talks about how much fun he had. When I asked him to review LEGOLAND Florida, here’s what he said.

This mornings Field Trips with Sue segment on CBS Better Mornings focused on what to do in Atlanta with kids over the next few weeks. It was hard to narrow it down to just a few activities.
