Enjoy an afternoon of FREE, themed family fun once a month from spring to fall at Centennial Olympic Park’s Fourth Saturday Family Fun Day! The event is full of interactive, entertaining and educational activities for children and each Saturday features a different theme. This Saturday, June 25, 2011 is the Great Outdoors and the Park has invited civic organizations, hobby enthusiasts, artisans, school groups and entertainers from around the Southeast to participate in the program. Fourth Saturday Family Fun Day is an award winning event, voted “Best Community Involvement” program in Georgia by the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA). 

We went to the last program and had a blast. In addition to face painters (who were excellent) there was a balloon artist, a community art project, kits to make and fly, vendors with free samples and of course, fun in the Centennial Olympic Park Fountains!

Gabe Wardell, Atlanta Film Festival

Whenever I do the Field Trips with Sue segment on CBS Better Mornings Atlanta, I look forward to seeing who is in-studio that day promoting events. This week, I met Gabe Wardell, executive director of the Atlanta Film Festival which is taking place this weekend. What a cool job.

The Atlanta Film Festival runs April 15 – 23. In addition to more adult fare, the festival has a partnership with KIDS FIRST! a project of the Coalition for Quality Children’s Media to provide FREE kids programming. The festival also has a selection of teen movies as part of the Teen Screen programming. For specfic films, go to pages 153 – 157 of the Atlanta Film Festival program guide.

What: Sensational Halloween Carnival
When: Saturday, October 24, 2009, 1pm – 6pm
Where: Sensations TheraFun, 1704 Chantilly Dr., Atlanta, GA 30324 (Off Cheshire Bridge Road at I-85)
Cost: $30 per Family of 4 ($6 per additional person)

Sensations TheraFun is a multi-sensory activity center for children of all ages and all abilities. It features a climbing wall, zip line, suspended swings, a bike track, and trampolines. Developed as a resources for children with sensory issues, the facility has become popular with children of all abilities. This Saturday’s Halloween carnival features additional entertainment, including a costume parade, a hayride, pumpkin painting, games, a cake walk, Halloween art, food and drinks.

Cost: Admission is free, but you must purchase tickets for food, drink and children’s crafts and activities at the gate

Take your family for a trip around the world this Sunday without leaving town! Atlanta International School’s annual Worldfest event offers games, crafts and live entertainment representative of the many cultures within the schools community, which includes parents, students and faculty from more than 90 countries. Past performances include Mongolian dances, international puppet demonstrations, and African drum troupes, to name just a few! Children have their “passport” stamped in each destination and perhaps have their name written in several languages. Parents enjoy the “Taste of Nations,” where traditional delicacies from around the world are prepared by natives of many countries.
