CORE’s Lunchtime in the Studio series is a free and fun way to introduce kids to watching dance performance, while adults can enjoy the dance too, along with some creatively and intellectually stimulating discussion. CORE welcomes the public into CORE Studios for this informal “get to know us” event, and you get free lunch, too!
CORE (Several Dancers Core) presents Lunchtime in the Studio, a free dance and lunch series that continues with an event on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 from noon to 1 p.m. at CORE Studios, 139 Sycamore Street, on Decatur Square. Three more future dates this season include January 17, March 7 and May 9. (All Lunchtimes in the Studio take place at CORE Studios from noon to 1 p.m.) In addition to the dance demonstration featuring CORE Performance Company, a complimentary lunch is generously provided to the first 40 audience members. In November lunch is sponsored by Eddie’s Attic along with coffee from Starbucks.
Lunchtime in the Studio has been called “a close-up and personal look at how contemporary dance is crafted and performed” (AJC). Lunchtime in the Studio offers a free “backstage pass” to audience members who witness and participate in the internationally acclaimed collaborative process of CORE Performance Company. Audience members deepen their experience of watching dance by learning about the creative process that takes place here in the Decatur studio, where for 26 years, CORE Performance Company has created the shows that are performed here and toured nationally and internationally.
At the November 15th Lunchtime in the Studio, audience members will get the opportunity to become familiar with CORE Performance Company’s dance projects that happen outside theatrical stage spaces. When a performance piece is created specifically to be performed in one place, it is considered a “site-specific” work. The company will showcase examples from a tour to an inflatable structure in Arkansas and one example from right here on the Downtown Decatur Square.
Celebrating its 26th Season in Decatur, CORE has grown into a multifaceted dance organization spanning two cities and generating connections throughout the world. CORE has built a stable arts organization which provides opportunities, programs and support for artists, students and underserved populations. The philosophy of CORE centers on a commitment to fostering creativity and to experiencing the power of dance as a method of deepening the experience of the present and re-envisioning the future.
