The Dragon Con Parade has always been one of my favorite events in Atlanta. This year, the folks at Dragon Con have added a convention track specifically for tweens called Kaleidoscope. The KT track, is Dragon Con-style programming for kids 9 – 13 years old and the young at heart. It’s based on Live Action TV shows from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney Channel.

Dragon Con with KidsIn addition to discussions on shows like iCarly, Spongebob Squarepants, and Phineas and Ferb, the KT track also has a photo scavenger hunt and an American Idol type competition where participants 9 – 13 can sing, dance or play an instrument. Of course, kids can also participate in the standard convention activities that cover favorite characters from Star Wars, Japanese Animation, Tween Movies and other live action shows.

Kaleidoscope Track participants are required to have an adult with them at all times. The events specific to the KT track go from 11 – 7:30 pm on Friday and Saturday and 10 – 7:30 pm on Sun. and Monday. Events end at 7:30 pm because organizers felt Dragon Con activities after 8 might be too mature for younger enthusiasts.

Additional standard conference tracks that might interest younglings include:

The costuming track has a session for children ages 9 and up offers ideas on looking like your favorite sci-fi hero or villain. There are track-specific costume-building sessions as well. For example, the Young Adult Literature track has one for Harry Potter costuming.

The Science track and the Space track allows attendees to bring telescopes and learn about the stars!
