Here’s a perfect show for the preschool set to enjoy before they go back to school in September. Based on the beloved classic by Hans Christian Andersen, The Ugly Duckling follows a young bird who simply doesn’t fit in with the other ducks in the pond. Helped by some friendly forest sprites, the duckling sets out to explore the wonders of the pond. On his journey, he meets a cast of colorful characters, braves the changing of the seasons, and discovers his true self. With a beautifully created environment full of hidden musical instruments created by Klimchak, Atlanta’s percussionist extraordinaire, The Ugly Duckling brings to the stage Andersen’s transformative fable about life’s often bumpy road.
Create a Puppet Workshop and Museum Tour
Included in the full-price ticket cost is admission to the Create-A-Puppet Workshop, which is one of our favorite things to do. Patrons will create their own Ugly Duckling Marionette or pick up a Create-A-Puppet To-Go to continue the fun at home!
Save some time in your visit to meander through the Center’s permanent museum Puppets: The Power of Wonder, which includes three exclusive exhibits featuring the work of Jim Henson. My son loves to create his own puppet faces in the interactive portion of the museum. I wanted to thank you for the tickets – I never win anything and this was wonderful! It was for my granddaughter and as my luck would have it, I had to be out of town. My husband and my daughter took the grandchildren and they had the best time. Ashby, 3, is still talking about the ugly duckling and the beautiful big wings on the swan. She is also still playing with her ugly duckling puppet. As soon as they got home, she made her mommy take her to the library so they could get a book about the ugly duckling. It was a great day for her. I am so sorry I had to miss it. Thank you so much!! I really enjoy your blog. Keep it up!
Rosemary, Thank you so much for letting me know how it went. I’m sorry you missed the show, but glad your grand-daughter had so much fun and it sparked her interest afterwards too!
