A few weeks ago, Field Trips with Sue was invited to participate in a “Try Me” day at Circus Camp here in Atlanta. I unfortunately had to work, but I sent my two youngest with our fantastic babysitter and asked them to write a post for me. This is my 10-year-old’s review of Circus Camp. If you’re interested in checking it out, “Try Me” days are on Monday and cost $50 or $60 depending on location. If your child enjoys it, that fee is applied to the weekly tuition. Thanks to James Stephens for suggesting Circus Camp.

At Circus Camp you can do a lot of things like clowning, acrobatics, uni-cycling, juggling, and much much more! My favorite part was the clowning. They taught us a skit that was called the student and teacher skit. It’s were a person is the teacher and another person is the student. The teacher makes hand motions and the student copies the hand motions and finally gets caught and chased out of the room!(Editors Note: Mr. Greggy, of Mr. Greggy’s Silly Circus and Movie at the Plaza Theatre teaches clowning at Circus Camp.)
A few tips for circus camp are to park and walk your child inside. Do not pack anything that has peanuts in it because they will take it away and give it back to you at the end of camp. You have to pack a lunch and put it in your letter basket.
A few notes from our babysitter (who also happens to teach pre-K). She stayed and watched the kids…
Circus Camp is a place where any child can shine. Everytime I heard “I can’t,” I heard the counselors say “sure you can, and I can show you how.” There is something for everyone. They have acrobatics, juggling, plate spinning, clowning, arts and crafts, unicycling, magic and trapeze. It is a place where kids can have fun, and be themselves. They were very nurturing. The skills build too, so if your child goes more than a week, and passes certain skills test they can continue on to the next level.
