What: National Park Week
Where: All 392 National Parks
When: April 17 – 25, 2010
Cost: FREE
In celebration of National Park Week, the United States Park Service is waving fees for all 392 National Parks across the country, including several in Georgia. I recently went to the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area and loved it.
Sat., April 24, is National Junior Ranger Day, and children can take part in kid-friendly activities and earn their very own junior ranger patch! Kids can become Junior Rangers and earn patches by completing activities at selected parks. I didn’t see any in Georgia, but there is also a web based Junior Ranger program (webrangers) where children play games and earn virtual patches. I tested it with a program on the railroads and it was fun.Your child needs to be able to read in order to do most activities or have a parent’s help. What a fun way to prepare for a trip to a National Park.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in Kennesaw, GA has a special Jr. Ranger program on Saturday April 24 from 10:00 until 3:00. Chick-Fil-A is partnering with them that day and giving out coupons for free food. We did it last year and the kids loved it. Everything was free!
