Where: Conant Performing Arts Center (4484 Peachtree Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30319)
Cost: FREE
My youngest has hit the Magic Tree House stage. We found an audio CD for Stage Fright on a Summer Night and we’ve been listening to it in the car. If you haven’t read the book, Jack and Annie perform in a play directed by William Shakespeare. It’s a great intro to Shakespeare for kids. This event I found in Atlanta on the Cheap sounds like another great opportunity.
Highlighting the life and times of William Shakespeare, Shakespeare’s Birthday Party features Shakespeare-themed arts and crafts (sponsored by the Junior League of Atlanta), face painting, stage combat demonstrations, a jumping house, jugglers and performances. In addition, children will have an opportunity to dress up in Elizabethan costumes, have their picture taken with the Queen, enjoy birthday cake and other surprises.
The great wizard Merlin of The Legend of the Sword in the Stone fame will make an appearance. Georgia Shakespeare presents a world-premiere production of young King Arthur’s story as part of its Family Classics Series July 20 thru August 7 at the Conant Performing Arts Center. Discount tickets to The Legend of the Sword in the Stone will be available during Shakespeare’s Birthday for only $10 each (regular price: $13).
