I love Dr. Seuss. My favorite book is The Lorax, followed closely by Oh the Places You’ll Go and I’m pretty good at reading Fox in Socks, although my tongue does get tied a little at Luke Luck Likes Lakes.

If you’re a Seuss fan, you’ll love the new exhibit at The Breman. Your kids can make lots of noise in the Seussian playground where they can play with the Lorax, the Sneetches, Horton, and Yertle. I enjoyed learning a little more about Ted Geisel, the political cartoonist.  Before there was a Dr. Seuss, Theodor Geisel’s art focused on political cartooning during the early 1940s. He sounded the alarm about the dangers of isolationism, racism, and antisemitism, which is the reason the exhibit is at The Breman.

In addition to the Seuss exhibit, The Breman has an interesting exhibit focused on the Atlanta Jewish community. My youngest loved playing in the hands-on turn of the century grocery store.

There is also a very well done exhibit that takes visitors through the Holocaust. It starts off showing the diverse world of the Jews in Europe then shows how the Nazis began turning people against them and how acts like public humiliation and book burnings were the beginning. The museum recommends children be at least 5th graders to view this exhibit as there are some very graphic images. My 4th grader didn’t know anything about the Holocaust, so we went through the first portion, but as soon as we got to the barbed wire fences similar to that of the concentration camps, we backtracked. This trip was about Dr. Seuss, we’ll take another field trip next year when he’s studying WWII and see the Holocaust exhibit.

If you’d like to make a day of it, head across the street to the Center for Puppetry Arts and see a puppet show before or after the museum.
