What: A Day at Piedmont Park
Where: Piedmont Park, Midtown Atlanta
When: Anytime
Cost: FREE
A few weeks ago I took the boys and some friends to check out the new Piedmont Park pool. The pool was fun, but the meandering through the park afterward was even better. It was the perfect summer day, just discovering things and letting the wind take us. Kind of our own version of If You Give a Pig a Party. Here’s a chronicle of the day’s activities.
Just outside the pool gates is a new playground with the soft cushioning underneath. The boys continued their pool tag game here for a while. Right next to the playground are level cement paths, perfect for bike riding, scooters or skates. While the boys played, I saw several kids of various skill levels go by on the path. If you’re just learning to ride a bike, this is a great place to practice.
On the way back to our car, we walked across one of the bridges and had to stop to watch a mother duck and her ducklings drying themselves. In the water we spotted a turtle swimming around and wondered if there was good fishing in the lake. Back on the road, we came upon a large hill, perfect for rolling down, which the boys did, over and over until a dog caught their eye and they went to say hello. The dog reminded us that Piedmont Park has a dedicated dog park, so we went to watch the dogs playing. On the way there, we came across the Camp Market Garden. PPC Day Camp participants tend the garden and the produce is sold at the Saturday Green Market. After checking out the dogs, it truly was time to leave.
We’re very lucky to have such a wonderful park in Atlanta. To help with the continued renovation of the park, donate to the $20 for 20 campaign.
