What: Dragon Con 2009 Parade
Where: Downtown Atlanta
When: Sept. 5, 10 a.m.
Cost: Free
I have been hearing for years about Dragon Con, the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy in the US, that is taking place this weekend in Downtown Atlanta. Although I don’t consider myself a huge Sci-Fi fan, readers of this blog know I am a fan of parades and this Saturday is the Dragon Con 2009 Parade.
The parade begins promptly at 10 am. The route follows Peachtree Street north from Woodruff Park (at Auburn Avenue) to the Hyatt, continues down Baker Street, and ends at the Marriott. Last year’s event had more than 2000 costumed members of Dragon Con strutting their stuff down Peachtree and spilling out into the streets too. Be warned, some of these costumes are VERY good, and participants are encouraged to interact with the crowd, so your little ones could get scared.
However, if you have a crew like mine that have been entertained all summer by Percy Jackson and Camp Half-Blood or can name all the planets, ships and characters in Star Wars in alphabetical order forwards and backwards, this field trip could be a winner.

I can't wait to see your video of the parade. My kids would love it but we have too many things planned already this weekend.
Here's some fantastic behind info you need to "Know Before You Go" from Access Atlanta http://bit.ly/3s3RwH
We went a couple of years ago. We had fun, but we had to do a lot of deverting the eyes. lots of scary costumes like Zombies and ladies wearing next to nothing. Not for really young kids.
Good Intel, Thanks Lawrence Family.
We did end up going down for this parade. It was the most crowded of any downtown parade I've been seen. However, I think it might be more family friendly than in years past. I didn't see a lot of scantily clad girls. There were some scary ones, so again, it may not be the thing for little ones, but my 5 year old and I really enjoyed it. Walking around downtown was fun too because there were so many people in costumes.
