This is the last full week of summer vacation for us before school starts. If you’re thinking about a lazy day at the pool to end the season, try Chastain Park pool. Chastain Park pool is a less crowded alternative to the Piedmont Park pool. Although Piedmont has some cool features like a lazy river and whirlpool, Chastain Park has essentially three pools, a deep pool, lap pool and shallow end. The deep pool has a diving board on one side and on the other side is a swimming area, perfect for sharks and minnows. The lap pool has starting blocks and lanes and the shallow pool is a maximum of 3 ft. 6 in. in depth and has stairs across one entire end, perfect for the little guys.

There are lots of shady places to camp out and a snack bar for refreshments. Picnic tables next to the snack bar are a perfect place for a picnic lunch. The day we went it was cool. I thought this might affect the crowds, so I asked the lifeguard if normally it was more crowded, he said the weekends, especially Sunday are busy, but the video here is an average weekday.

Do you know of a great pool that offers free hours or inexpensive fees? If so, send me a video and paragraph about the pool and I’ll post it on Field Trips with Sue.

Hi Sue: looks nice :) we went to Piedmont Park for a bike ride and just peeked to see the pool but did not have a chance to dip our toes! Will have to try. The video gives a good sense of what to expect. Amelia

Piedmont was a great pool, just very crowded. It may be better next week once school starts. We had a great time just hanging out in the park too.
