Where: Piedmont Park

I love driving down Habersham Road in the spring with all the azaleas and dogwoods in full bloom. If you’ve ever driven from West Wesley to Roswell Road, you’ve probably noticed the house at the bend that always has the most amazing flowers out front. I’ve often thought about stopping and leaving the residents a thank you note for making that bend in the road something I always look forward to.

Spring and beautiful blooms also signal it’s time for the Atlanta Dogwood Festival. After a year at Lenox Mall, the festival is back in it’s rightful home in Piedmont Park. I’m a festival kind of girl and this is a great one. There are lots of kid’s activities from performers to arts and crafts. The kids activities area is open from noon to 6 pm on Friday and Sunday and 10 – 6 on Saturday. We always love to sit on the hill and watch the disc dog exhibition. Shows are at 12, 2, 4 and 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. To me there is no better way to listen to music than outdoors on a beautiful day. Here is a list of the musical lineup at this year’s festival.

Festivals always have great food too. In addition to the usual fair, there is generally some outlets that are unique to that festival. At Jazz Fest it was the crawfish bread. The Apple Festival in Ellijay had an amazing cooked apple dumpling with homemade cinnamon ice cream. That dessert is a legend in our house. So what’s the legendary food at the Dogwood Festival? Let me know what you can’t pass up at the Dogwood Festival, whether it’s food or fun, by leaving a comment.
